Learning Support

The school recognises the right of every student to be offered an appropriate education and seeks to ensure that, through the implementation of a whole school approach to Special Needs, each student can reach his or her full potential and grow in independence.

The Learning Support Department comprises of three teachers and twelve Teaching Assistants. The department is housed in Student Services within a large multi-purpose area which is used for group interventions in literacy, numeracy, transition and ELSA as well as individual work with access to a range of up-to-date resources.

The staff in the Learning Support Department are highly committed. They establish excellent relationships with the students, inspiring confidence and enabling these students to improve their learning.

The department works very closely with subject teachers. Teaching Assistants are allocated to subject faculties in addition to their specialisms in supporting students with a variety of needs.

The Learning Support Department has good links with a range of outside agencies who come into school to support their work and advise on ways forward, both as a whole school and for individual students.

Lunchtimes offer students a quieter space to have their lunch with the staff. There is the opportunity to attend clubs or to have support with homework. Students are made welcome and encouraged to support one another and respect the needs of those around them.
