Mr C Cox - Associate Headteacher

Year 11 enjoyed their fabulous Prom at St Mary’s Stadium on Thursday evening.  Thank you to all my colleagues who led and attended this event and ensured our students had such a magnificent end to their school days.  We look forward to seeing you again on Results Day, 22 August, and wish you a relaxing summer and success in your post-16 destinations.

Term is approaching its end.  However, there is still lots going on.   As well as welcoming visitors from China, we have our Mandarin Excellent Programme students leaving for Beijing this week, and our sports tour to South Africa leaving shortly.  Again, thanks to all my colleagues who make these exceptional overseas visits possible.

Bluestar Bus - Last Day of Term (23 July)

Bluestar will be providing the Mountbatten 504 at 12.30pm on the last day of term.  Please note that as Year 11 has already left, Bluestar is going to combine the afternoon 504 + 505 into one vehicle for a regular finish time on Monday 22 July and the early finish on Tuesday 23 July 2024.

On just these two afternoons, all students should board the same bus and the bus will do both sets of drop-offs for the 504 + 505.

Able Linguistics Day 2024

On Tuesday 25 June, our Year 7 and Year 8 students embarked on an exciting linguistic adventure, diving head first into the rich and diverse world of languages during the much-anticipated Able Linguists Day. This special event not only showcased the incredible linguistic talents of our students but also ignited a passion for language learning that will last a lifetime.

The morning kicked off with a series of taster lessons in German, Latin, and Italian. With enthusiasm and curiosity, students embraced these new languages, drawing connections and recognising familiar patterns. Their linguistic prowess shone brightly, as they quickly adapted and excelled in this multilingual exploration.

As the day progressed, the afternoon sessions brought out the creative flair in our young linguists. Working in collaborative groups, students poured their energy into developing captivating films, vibrant posters, and persuasive presentations. Each project aimed to inspire their peers and the wider school community to embrace the joys of language learning. The event showcased not only the linguistic talents of our students but also their creativity, teamwork, and enthusiasm for learning.

Here’s to our budding linguists – may they continue to explore, connect, and inspire through the power of language!

Internationalism

This week we welcomed 44 students and 5 visiting staff from ZhengZhou Economic & Technological Zone in China to The Mountbatten School. Students were paired up with Mountbatten Buddies for the week and got to experience the daily life of the school. The visiting group had an excellent time and much of this is due to our wonderful students and staff. The Mountbatten Buddies demonstrated excellent care and respect for our guests whilst developing their own leadership, communication and problem-solving skills.

We could not be more proud of our Mountbatten Buddies and we know they have made some lifelong connections whilst celebrating their cultural differences and similarities.

We have also been so impressed with how many students have come forward to be Buddies for our upcoming exchanges. A reminder that students can sign up for this here: https://forms.gle/Sa5asWT3p1VwxuP36

Well done and thank you to all those involved.

Click on the tabs below to find out what each year group is exploring in RSHE this term!

Year 7

Students have been discussing what a diverse society looks like and what the protected characteristics of the equalities act are. This has led to identifying and challenging stereotypes and what discrimination is. Students are also exploring what prejudice and bias looks like within the media and how they can research and find their own facts. Students are also identifying who their role models are and what influences they have upon them, as well as how to manage peer pressure.

Year 8

Students have been busy identifying what constitutes a healthy relationship and discussing how to form positive and healthy new friendships. This moves onto exploring their online activity and behaviours with the aim to reduce online risks and develop their digital resilience. Students also explore the importance of human rights and responsibilities within society, the school environment and the workplace and how to challenge discrimination.

Year 9

Students have been identifying how relationships can change and evolve. This has also included considering loss. Family dynamics and marriage are explored and Year 9 revisit what constitutes a positive relationship. Contraception and the risk of sexually transmitted infections is shared with the students.

Year 10

Students have been reflecting on their work experience placements by sharing their experiences and feedback with one another. They have also been completing their work books and evidence in preparation for their entry to the Prince’s Trust World of Work certification. They will then move on to considering role models and aspirations before revisiting online safety.

Year 11

Students complete their RSHE program this half-term ahead of their exams but have spent some time reflecting on their RSHE journey throughout their time at Mountbatten from Year 7 to Year 11. They have discussed some sensitive topics around pregnancy, miscarriage and abortion with maturity. Positive relationships and consent have been explored and developed from their work in Year 10. We hope that our RSHE curriculum will help our students stay healthy and happy during and long after their exams.

Should your child wish to seek support related to any of these topics or about anything else that is worrying them, please advise them to speak to their form tutor in the first instance or request some support from our Student Support Team by completing the Student Support form on the student area of the school website.

We have our reporting system 'TootToot', where students can report anonymously or with their name.

Other local support can be found at Youth In Romsey and No Limits.

Childline also offers a range of support and resources.
