Autumn leaves are a stunning display of how the change of season transforms our world. The tapestry of colour is wonderful…until the leaf blower has to come out! It may not have been ‘Boston in the Fall’ but I think we will all take ‘dry and cloudy’!
Behaviour has been a real positive this week and all this term. Staff have awarded 117,664 positive epraise points since September, compared to only 6668 negative demerits. This is a positive to negative ratio of over 17:1 which is a credit to both our students, for being great, and to our staff, for always trying to find the positive and taking the time to record it!
Thank you to all of you who use epraise regularly to both celebrate the positive at home, whilst also giving a gentle reminder to turn up to a detention if your child has got something wrong. If you need any help setting it up on your phone or computer. please click here.
As we settle into the colder months, please make sure your child wears their coat (and not a hoodie!) to school. We all know how important it is to get some fresh air during a break. Some take a stroll, some sit and have a chat, whilst others run around playing football! Fresh air and natural light boost both our physical and mental health. They are great at providing a quick reset and recharge before our next lessons! I know I benefit from a quick stroll and chatting to our lovely students!
This week, Lower School assemblies have looked at bike safety and respecting your neighbours. Recently, we have had a few incidents of both dangerous riding and disrespectful behaviour. Thank you to the vast majority who get it right. Can you please have a chat with your child, encouraging them to continue to be the great ambassadors they are and to always report any negative behaviours they witness. Only then, can we educate those getting it wrong and be the neighbours we want to be.
Have a lovely weekend.

Post Looked After Children (PLAC)
If you are the parent or carer of a child who was previously looked after (this is anyone who has been in the care system and now resides with you under an adoption process or similar) there is support available in school to help ensure your child has the maximum opportunity to reach their full educational potential.
Please email Natalie.Harper@mountbatten.school if you would like to know more about what we can do to support your child's educational progress and achievement.
This is voluntary information sharing and will be handled with sensitivity; we would request documentation of the adoption order or similar, which would be kept securely and confidentially.
KS3 Celebrate 'Day of the Dead' with Cultural Altar & Video Project
Before half-term, our KS3 students embraced the chance to learn about Mexican culture by creating a collaborative altar inspired by El Día de los Muertos, or Day of the Dead.
They explored the traditions behind this vibrant celebration, comparing it with Halloween to understand the different ways cultures remember loved ones.
As part of the project, they created a video documenting their work and discoveries, which we are excited to announce has been entered into a competition at Southampton University. We’re proud of our students’ creativity and hard work and look forward to hearing the results!
We are seeking a Higher-Level Teaching Assistant or Teaching Assistant to work in the classroom supporting students with a range of special educational needs.
The Geography Department would like to thank our superb Year 11 Geography cohort for their cooperation, curiosity and support of the Southampton case study trips this week.
It was a pleasure to explore our local city together to evaluate the challenges and opportunities that urban change can create. We have been so impressed with the work ethic of our geographers and we would also like to thank parents and carers for their support in making these trips possible. Well done, Year 11!

Last half-term in RSHE, students made a great start to their discussion-based lessons where they explored a range of topics. The lessons are taught in tutor groups once a week. Teachers use a range of oracy-based strategies including a Philosophy for Children approach. This is where students are encouraged to think more deeply through critical, creative, collaborative and caring thinking skills. Below are links to more information regarding RSHE.
Students will be exploring healthy living this half-term. They will be identifying what type of lifestyle they lead by considering their diet and exercise habits. They will also consider dental hygiene and pressures from the cosmetics industry. Energy drinks and caffeine will also be discussed, as well as the importance of sleep and brain development. Vaping will be the final topic in this healthy living series and we hope students will recognise the known and unknown risks associated with e-cigarettes.
Year 8
Students will be exploring the online world this half-term. They will be considering the impacts of social media and their responsibilities when it comes to online activity. They will also discuss the stress that can come with managing various online platforms and how media sources can have bias, misinformation and disinformation and it is therefore important to validate the information they view.
Year 9
Students will be exploring internet safety this half-term. They will consider how to use the internet safely and appropriately, as well as identifying what digital resilience is and how to develop it to keep themselves safe and happy. Students will also be completing their #beewell surveys this half-term, which will provide us with an insight into the mental health and wellbeing of our students, which helps inform our RSHE themes and in school support.
Year 10
Students will be exploring mental health and wellbeing this half-term. They will consider who are role models and what they may aspire to be like now and in the future. They will also consider how to reframe negative thinking to take a more positive approach to challenges and ways in which they can support mental and emotional wellbeing including mindfulness and signposting on how to access quality support and guidance if ever needed.
Year 11
Students will be completing some Emergency First Aid training which will lead to a St John’s ambulance certificate if students fulfill the practical elements of the session. Students will also explore peer pressure and ways to manage it as well as discussing risky behaviours and lifestyle choices such as substance abuse.
Should your child wish to seek support related to any of these topics or about anything else that is worrying them, please advise them to speak to their form tutor in the first instance or request some support from our Student Support Team by completing the Student Support form on the student area of the school website.
We have our reporting system 'TootToot', where students can report anonymously or with their name.
Childline also offers a range of support and resources.
