With Year 11 mock exams now complete, it is the perfect time for students to reflect on what worked well and identify areas for improvement. Effective organisation remains key as we move closer to the summer exams, and developing strong revision habits now will pay off in the months ahead.
One particularly useful strategy is spaced repetition. This involves reviewing information at increasing intervals over time, helping to strengthen memory and prevent last-minute cramming. Revisiting topics regularly—whether through flashcards, self-quizzing, or past papers—can significantly improve long-term understanding. Students might find it helpful to schedule short, frequent revision sessions rather than long blocks, focusing on weaker areas while continuing to reinforce what they already know.
If mock results highlight gaps, encourage your child to seek support from their teachers. By acting on feedback now, students can refine their revision techniques and build confidence ahead of the final exams.
This week also marks an exciting highlight in the school calendar—the production of Aladdin. Our talented students have been working tirelessly to bring this classic story to life, with performances running for three nights and concluding this evening. It is a fantastic opportunity to celebrate their creativity and dedication, and we wish the cast and crew every success.

Aladdin Jr 2025
The school production of Aladdin Jr took place this week, and I am delighted to say it has been a resounding success. I am so incredibly proud of the entire cast and crew; they have put so much effort into rehearsals and preparing for the show, and it has been wonderful to see them shine in front of such large audiences. Thank you to the parents and carers for your support with the show and I look forward to seeing some of our younger students take on those leading roles in the coming years. It's a sell-out show for tonight's final performance. What a fantastic end to a great week!
Mrs Hocking Head of Drama
Congratulations...
Congratulations to Olivia B 7LAD/AGN who travelled to Portugal over half-term to compete in the Portimão International Trampoline Open.
Olivia competed in both Trampoline and DMT events and qualified for the finals in both Disciplines. Olivia had a fantastic final. She took a risk on DMT, attempting a double double for the first time, but didn’t quite make the landing. In the Trampoline final, Olivia achieved a PB score and won first place, achieving her 3rd international Gold in 4 months. Well done, Olivia!
Young Chef Competition
On Saturday 15 February, Hadiza G 11RCS competed in the second round of the Young Rotary Chef competition against 15 students from across the district at Havant and South Downs College.
She did an excellent job preparing and presenting her dishes in a commercial kitchen, working with unfamiliar equipment. Hadiza also spoke confidently with the judges and organisers, making both herself and Mountbatten School proud.
Although she did not progress to the next round, her hard work and dedication were truly commendable. Congratulations, Hadiza!

Year 8 Career Talk - Equine Dentist
In the weeks leading up to half-term students learnt about careers ‘working with animals’ in their weekly Careers Education lessons. To round the topic up they had the opportunity to listen to Equine Dentist Beth Robinson who kindly set up her camera in her stables, showing students the various instruments needed for dental treatments, how to keep the patients calm, horse mouth anatomy and various other topics. Beth also explained different pathways into the profession in case students wish to follow in her footsteps. To find out more on how to become an Equine Dentist, please click here.

RSHE lessons have continued to be taught each week (including today) in tutor groups. Do ask your child what they have been learning about and encourage them to ask further questions.
In lesson, teachers use a range of oracy-based strategies, including a Philosophy for Children approach. This is where students are encouraged to think more deeply through critical, creative, collaborative and caring thinking skills. Below are links to more information regarding RSHE.
This half-term Year 7 will be exploring empathy, compassion and community by spending a few weeks discussing online influences, cyberbullying, bullying and how to promote anti-bullying by being an upstander and how to report concerns. How they perceive themselves based on online media pressures will follow on.
Year 8
This half-term Year 8 will be exploring healthy lifestyles and good physical health as well as how to maintain positive mental health and self-worth using healthy coping strategies and identifying what may be unhealthy responses. This leads on to discussing what a healthy relationship looks and feels and how to challenge unhealthy relationships.
Year 9
Year 9 will begin the New Year considering what supports healthy living and how to lead a healthy lifestyle. This also includes how to maintain positive mental health and self-worth when using social media. Students will consider how their own self perception and internet use may be linked and correlated. Students will participate in some basic first aid training looking at CPR and recovery position as well as the use of an AED.
Year 10
Year 10 will be kick-starting the term with a recap on changes during adolescence, healthy living and positive lifestyle choices. This then leads into exploring the impacts of drug and alcohol use. Students will consider their current understanding and perceptions of various substances, explore how to manage the risks associated with their use, how to keep themselves and others safe and where to seek advice and information in the future. The influences of gang culture and county lines will also be explored.
Year 11
Year 11 will start the term considering how to revise and prepare for examinations ahead of completing the mocks. They will then consider what it means to be on the organ donor register and what decisions they may want to make now or in the future. They will then go on to consider what their ambitions are for the future and reflect upon their recent mock results.
Should your child wish to seek support related to any of these topics or about anything else that is worrying them, please advise them to speak to their form tutor in the first instance or request some support from our Student Support Team by completing the Student Support form on the student area of the school website.
Our message reporting system 'TootToot', can also be used to request support or report a concern.
Childline also offers a range of support and resources.
Part of the healthy living topics include discussing the need for good sleep habits. Support with teenage sleep can be found at Teen Sleep Hub, which is part of The Sleep Charity.
