MFL Department

Félicitations! ¡Felicidades!

A huge congratulations to all our amazing Year 11 students who completed their GCSE French and Spanish speaking exams this week!

You've shown courage, resilience, and hard work, and we are so proud of how far you've come in your language journey. Speaking in another language takes real confidence, and you’ve all stepped up brilliantly.

Whether you were describing your dream holidays, chatting about school life, or sharing your opinions on global issues — you did it!

Now take a deep breath, give yourselves some credit, and keep that momentum going for the rest of your exams.

On est fiers de vous. Estamos orgullosos de vosotros. We are proud of you.

Year 10 Work Experience

Over the last few weeks we have received and collated employers’ feedback from the recent work experience which will be shared with students next week. They can use the feedback forms for future college, apprenticeship and job applications. The feedback has been overwhelmingly positive; employers remarked how maturely students have approached any tasks given, how polite and enthusiastic they were and stated that they are a real credit to their parents / carers and school. Following their positive placement, many students have received job and apprenticeship offers.

Year 10 College Taster Day

If you have not submitted your child’s preferences yet, can you please do so as soon as possible.

RSHE lessons have continued to be taught each week in tutor groups. Do ask your child what they have been learning about and encourage them to ask further questions.

In lesson, teachers use a range of oracy-based strategies, including a Philosophy for Children approach. This is where students are encouraged to think more deeply through critical, creative, collaborative and caring thinking skills. Below are links to more information regarding RSHE.

  • Relationships and Sex Education (RSE) (Secondary) - GOV.UK
  • Relationships Education, Relationships and Sex Education (RSE) and Health Education - GOV.UK
  • Understanding Relationships, Sex and Health Education at your child's secondary school: a guide for parents - GOV.UK

Year 7

This half-term Year 7 will be exploring puberty, looking at the process of physical and emotional changes that occur as children grow into adults, considering the different ways puberty affects boys and girls. They will go on to identify what influences they have around them and how to maintain appropriate behaviours during adolescence.

Year 8

This half-term Year 8 will be exploring healthy relationships, consent and intimate relationships with an introduction to contraception. They will also consider online safety and relationships.

Year 9

Year 9 will begin the New Year considering what a healthy relationship is, what it means to be committed to relationships, including intimate ones. They will also explore different contraceptives and discuss STI’s and how they are transmitted.

Year 10

Year 10 will be exploring influences around them and peer relationships. They will consider the impact of gang culture and the risks of County Lines and drug activity. They will then prepare for the start of their work experience.

Year 11

Year 11 will be completing their last topics of RSHE before developing study and revision skills ahead of the GCSE exams. The final lessons include Self-examination, sexual health and medical appointments and pregnancy.  Videos supporting the self-checking sessions include: Check Your Pair – A How-To Guide and https://vimeo.com/29898544

Should your child wish to seek support related to any of these topics or about anything else that is worrying them, please advise them to speak to their form tutor in the first instance or request some support from our Student Support Team by completing the Student Support form on the student area of the school website.

Our message reporting system 'TootToot', can also be used to request support or report a concern.

Other local support can be found at Youth In Romsey and No Limits.

Childline also offers a range of support and resources.

Part of the healthy living topics include discussing the need for good sleep habits. Support with teenage sleep can be found at Teen Sleep Hub, which is part of The Sleep Charity.
