Mr B Byfield - Managing Director of Personal Best Education
It has been a fantastic year so far at Personal Best Education and we are really pleased to see new opportunities thriving. We have recently launched a series of new classes at The Mountbatten School that are proving incredibly popular with the local community including Spanish and Yoga. Whether you are looking to brush up on your language skills or enjoy a weekly stretch and unwind, we would love for you to come along and join in.
As we approach the summer holidays, we are excited about what’s ahead. Our Holiday Camps are going from strength to strength across the region. This summer, children can look forward to multi-sports, our inflatable obstacle course, laser tag, arts and crafts and much more.
Bookings are now open with day rates from £30 and discounted weekly options. We also accept childcare vouchers and the Tax-Free Childcare scheme. Our focus is always on helping children stay active and social while having loads of fun.
What’s more, bookings are now live for our immersive VR sessions this summer on 1st, 8th, 15th and 22nd August, 11am–12pm. These fun, educational and vocational experiences let young people explore the future of learning, working and playing in a whole new way.
If you are planning a birthday party over the holidays, we have something exciting for every age and interest. From inflatables and laser tag to gymnastics, Nerf battles and even our brand-new bushcraft party, perfect for outdoor adventurers and their friends.
Thank you as always for your support and here’s to an exciting summer ahead!

Bike Safety Reminder
We would like to remind everyone about the importance of bike safety.
We advise all students cycling to school to wear a helmet to protect themselves in case of an accident. We also strongly encourage parents and carers to check that their child’s bike is roadworthy, well-maintained, and equipped with working lights.
To stay safe on the roads, remember these key tips:
Be visible – wear bright or reflective clothing and use lights when needed
Follow the rules – obey traffic signals and signs
Be predictable – signal clearly and avoid sudden changes in direction
No headphones or earbuds while cycling. It’s important to stay alert and aware of your surroundings
Youth Impact Programme - Year 11s
Please click the button below to read more information about the Youth Impact Programme for Year 11 students.
Every year the School of Mathematical Sciences runs the University of Southampton Mathematics Challenge, which typically receives over 1000 entries from as many as 80 schools around the South of England and beyond, even receiving entries from international students.
The Challenge consists of a selection of interesting mathematical questions for pupils to attempt at home and provides an exciting opportunity for students to think outside the box and explore mathematics beyond the standard curriculum. Kira P 8TIS achieved a Merit award in the Junior Challenge and recently attended the award ceremony. This is a fantastic achievement and huge congratulations to Kira - especially considering the University said the tasks were harder this year in comparison to previous years.
Spanish Translation Bee
Florence, Phoebe and Alice did an outstanding job representing Mountbatten at the Regional Final of the Spanish Translation Bee at the University of Bath 🇪🇸🐝
In a high-pressure lecture theatre setting, each had just one minute to translate as many sentences as possible into Spanish — using past, present and future tenses, live and on stage!
They showed brilliant courage, focus and fluency, and came within just two points of reaching the final round. 💪👏
A huge well done to our talented Year 8 linguists — we’re so proud of you and can’t wait for next year’s competition! 💬✨ #MFL #SpanishBee #MountbattenProud #LanguagesMatter #StudentSuccess
If you are the parent or carer of a child who was previously looked after (this is anyone who has been in the care system and now resides with you under an adoption process or similar) there is support available in school to help ensure your child has the maximum opportunity to reach their full educational potential.
Please email Natalie.Harper@mountbatten.school if you would like to know more about what we can do to support your child's educational progress and achievement.
This is voluntary information sharing and will be handled with sensitivity; we would request documentation of the adoption order or similar, which would be kept securely and confidentially.

Year 8 Trip to Seawork
Students visited the Seawork Maritime exhibition this week to learn more about the amazing variety of jobs available in the maritime industry. They took part in a careers fair, attended an employee Q&A session and had the opportunity to take a look at one of the Army’s support boats. Students’ behaviour on the trip has been exemplary; the school has received an email from a member of the public commenting on how well students have conducted themselves whilst attending the exhibition.
The take-home message from exhibitors: the industry is crying out for new talent and any job that can be done on land can be found on or around the sea, often better paid! Careers at Sea have recently produced a new documentary that follows students on their cadet journey. The video can be viewed here.
Year 10 Work Experience (current Year 9 students)
A letter has been emailed to parents/carers providing information about the Year 10 Work Experience (official launch to students in September 2025).
Year 7 – 11 Maritime Careers Open Event
Fleetwood Nautical Campus is holding an open event on Thursday 10 July. Please see flyer for more information.
Year 11 Apprenticeship Opportunities
There are still some Level 3 & Level 4 Apprenticeships open for Application at Parker Meggitt’s in Fareham (Whiteley)
The Application window will close in 1 month. Successful Candidates will start on 1September.
RSHE lessons have continued to be taught each week in tutor groups. Do ask your child what they have been learning about and encourage them to ask further questions.
In lesson, teachers use a range of oracy-based strategies, including a Philosophy for Children approach. This is where students are encouraged to think more deeply through critical, creative, collaborative and caring thinking skills. Below are links to more information regarding RSHE.
Students have been discussing what a diverse society looks like and what the protected characteristics of the equalities act are. This has led to identifying and challenging stereotypes and what discrimination is. Students are also exploring what prejudice and bias looks like within the media and how they can research and find their own facts. Students are also identifying who their role models are and what influences they have upon them, as well as how to manage peer pressure. This leads on to exploring how to keep safe within society and within relationships.
Year 8
Students have been busy identifying what constitutes a healthy relationship and discussing how to form positive and healthy new friendships. This moves onto exploring their online activity and behaviours with the aim to reduce online risks and develop their digital resilience. Students also explore the importance of human rights and responsibilities within society, the school environment and the workplace and how to challenge discrimination. They will also discuss lifestyle choices by considering the risks and effects of alcohol, smoking and vaping.
Year 9
Students are exploring the risks associated with gangs, crime and violence. The influences of peers and the pressures that may come with that, how to support a friend who may find themselves in negative relationships and why some people may be drawn into risky behaviours are discussed as well as being supported by an assembly from an outside speaker. Lifestyle choices and drugs and vaping are specifically explored to support students’ health and wellbeing.
Year 10
Students have been reflecting on their work experience placements by sharing their experiences and feedback with one another. They have also been completing their workbooks and evidence in preparation for their World of Work certification. They will then move on to considering role models and aspirations before revisiting online safety and appropriate online material.
Year 11
Students complete their RSHE program this term ahead of their exams after they spend some time reflecting on their RSHE journey throughout their time at Mountbatten from Year 7 to Year 11. They will discuss some sensitive topics around pregnancy, miscarriage and abortion as well as positive relationships and consent. We hope that our RSHE curriculum will help our students stay healthy and happy during and long after their exams.
Should your child wish to seek support related to any of these topics or about anything else that is worrying them, please advise them to speak to their form tutor in the first instance or request some support from our Student Support Team by completing the Student Support form on the student area of the school website.
Childline also offers a range of support and resources.
Wellow Primary School - Open Day and Summer Fair
Wellow School Association is hosting a school open day on Saturday 14 June.
The school is 150 years old and the land it is on was gifted by the Nightingale Family. On show will also be the clock gifted by Florence Nightingale herself and recently restored on The Repair Shop. There will be lots of stalls, games, BBQ, afternoon tea, licensed bar and a huge raffle with the top prize being £150.
Please note all calls both to and from the school are recorded for training and monitoring purposes.
Change of time - Hatha Yoga
We’ve listened to your feedback and made a change to our yoga class start time.
Many of you told us that a slightly later start would make it easier to get to class after work or other commitments. So, from Monday 16 June, our Hatha Yoga class will begin at the new time of 6.30pm.
We hope this small shift makes a big difference in helping you carve out time for yourself each week. Whether you’re arriving straight from work or easing into your evening, you’ll still enjoy the same welcoming atmosphere, calming practice and expert guidance – just with a little more breathing room.
Thank you for helping us shape a class that works for you. We hope to see you on the mat soon!
