It’s celebration season at Mountbatten, as we recognise the hard work and progress of our students on their journey through school and beyond. A number of exciting events and trips have been planned to mark these important milestones:
Year 11 Prom – Wednesday 2 July: An evening to celebrate the end of exams and the journey ahead.
Links to the Year 7, 8, 9, and 10 events/trips are still open. If you would like your child to attend, please ensure you complete the relevant Google Form/s and make payment via SCOPAY as soon as possible.
We are proud of all our students and look forward to sharing these moments of reflection, fun, and celebration with them.
Year 6 to Year 7 Transition Update
As we celebrate our current students, we prepare to welcome new faces to our school community. The Year 6 to 7 Transition Team is working hard behind the scenes to ensure a smooth and supportive start for our incoming students. The team is currently finalising primary school visits and making the final preparations for the upcoming Year 6 Transition Day, which will take place on Wednesday 2 July.
This important day is designed to give upcoming Year 7 students a warm and supportive introduction to secondary school life. They’ll have the opportunity to meet key staff, explore the school site, take part in fun and engaging activities, and start building friendships ahead of the new academic year.
We are very much looking forward to welcoming Year 6 students to The Mountbatten School and helping them take this exciting next step in their educational journey.

Year 11: Cashless Catering Balances
If your Year 11 child has any positive balances on their cashless catering account, the balance will be transferred to any sibling still in school as early as possible in July.
If there are no siblings, the balance will be refunded to you by Aspens (the school's caterers) back to the card that the payment was made on, by the end of the first week in August.
This year, we've been proud to support Romsey Young Carers, an organisation close to the hearts of the school and wider community.
In February, we held a non-uniform day and raised a whopping £2,220! Last week, we hosted a brilliant Staff Quiz Night, made even more special thanks to an incredible raffle, filled with prizes donated by generous local businesses. We raised a further £1,100+ on the night!
A huge thank you goes to our amazing staff for coming along, and to everyone who supported the event - especially those who donated raffle prizes. Your kindness makes a real difference.
CRY (Cardiac Risk in the Young)
A huge thank you to our amazing school staff for organising a fantastic Bring-&-Buy Plant Sale in support of Cardiac Risk in the Young (CRY).
A special shoutout to Hillier Garden Centre in Braishfield for generously donating a wonderful variety of plants - your support helped the event bloom!
Re:Minds - Southampton
Please see below a blurb from Re:Minds.
Re:Minds is a Southampton based organisation supporting families whose children/young people have Autism, ADHD or other neurodiverse needs and/or mental health needs - with or without a diagnosis. Our aim is to allow people whose children face similar issues to meet up in an informal setting to share knowledge and talk about any challenges our families are facing. We don’t claim to be experts, just other families who understand what it can feel like to be on this journey.
We are the primary link between families and Southampton Specialist CAMHS and offer speakers on a range of topics.
Have you or your child had contact with a health visitor or school nurse in the last two years? Hampshire County Council want to hear from parents and carers of children aged 0–19 about your experiences with Hampshire’s Public Health Nursing Service. Your feedback will help them make sure the service continues to meet the changing needs of families across the county.
The survey takes less than 10 minutes and is open until 1 July. Share your views via the button below.

RSHE lessons have continued to be taught each week in tutor groups. Do ask your child what they have been learning about and encourage them to ask further questions.
In lesson, teachers use a range of oracy-based strategies, including a Philosophy for Children approach. This is where students are encouraged to think more deeply through critical, creative, collaborative and caring thinking skills. Below are links to more information regarding RSHE.
Students have been discussing what a diverse society looks like and what the protected characteristics of the equalities act are. This has led to identifying and challenging stereotypes and what discrimination is. Students are also exploring what prejudice and bias looks like within the media and how they can research and find their own facts. Students are also identifying who their role models are and what influences they have upon them, as well as how to manage peer pressure. This leads on to exploring how to keep safe within society and within relationships.
Year 8
Students have been busy identifying what constitutes a healthy relationship and discussing how to form positive and healthy new friendships. This moves onto exploring their online activity and behaviours with the aim to reduce online risks and develop their digital resilience. Students also explore the importance of human rights and responsibilities within society, the school environment and the workplace and how to challenge discrimination. They will also discuss lifestyle choices by considering the risks and effects of alcohol, smoking and vaping.
Year 9
Students are exploring the risks associated with gangs, crime and violence. The influences of peers and the pressures that may come with that, how to support a friend who may find themselves in negative relationships and why some people may be drawn into risky behaviours are discussed as well as being supported by an assembly from an outside speaker. Lifestyle choices and drugs and vaping are specifically explored to support students’ health and wellbeing.
Year 10
Students have been reflecting on their work experience placements by sharing their experiences and feedback with one another. They have also been completing their workbooks and evidence in preparation for their World of Work certification. They will then move on to considering role models and aspirations before revisiting online safety and appropriate online material.
Year 11
Students complete their RSHE program this term ahead of their exams after they spend some time reflecting on their RSHE journey throughout their time at Mountbatten from Year 7 to Year 11. They will discuss some sensitive topics around pregnancy, miscarriage and abortion as well as positive relationships and consent. We hope that our RSHE curriculum will help our students stay healthy and happy during and long after their exams.
Should your child wish to seek support related to any of these topics or about anything else that is worrying them, please advise them to speak to their form tutor in the first instance or request some support from our Student Support Team by completing the Student Support form on the student area of the school website.
Please note all calls both to and from the school are recorded for training and monitoring purposes.
