In assemblies this week, Miss Roodt (Head of Internationalism/Head of Humanities Faculty) introduced an exciting opportunity for students in Year 7 and 8. We have already been delighted by the overwhelming number of students keen to be Mountbatten International Buddies once again.
On 29 September, we are thrilled to be welcoming back students from Kerui School in China, who enjoyed their visit to Mountbatten in 2024 so much that they rebooked their return shortly after leaving the UK last October. Many schools are unable to offer such opportunities and it is partly due to the high standards of behaviour that we have at Mountbatten, that allows us to welcome international guests and continue to operate the International Buddy Scheme for our students.
During their stay, our guests will join lessons and immerse themselves in day-to-day school life alongside their buddies. This initiative is far more than a cultural exchange; it provides a meaningful platform for our students to build lasting friendships, develop empathy, and foster mutual understanding. By engaging directly with peers from different cultural backgrounds, students gain valuable insights that broaden their perspectives and help challenge stereotypes.
Many of our previous buddies have spoken incredibly positively about the personal growth this experience has brought—enhancing their communication skills, strengthening their sense of teamwork, and deepening their cultural awareness. These are essential attributes in an increasingly interconnected and globalised world, and we are proud to offer our students such a rewarding opportunity. What a great opportunity to speak about in future college/job interviews or prefect applications. Look out for further opportunities for other year groups!
