Mr C Goodrich - Chief Financial & Operations Officer
It is hard to believe that we are already approaching the end of this half-term! A quick reminder to parents and carers that Monday 19, Tuesday 20 and Wednesday 21 October are INSET days, so the school will be closed to students. The half-term break begins on Thursday 22 October, and we look forward to welcoming everyone back on Monday 2 November. We hope that all our students and families enjoy a well-deserved rest and some time to recharge before the start of another busy and exciting half-term.
As we reach the end of October, there is plenty to celebrate. Our Autumn Concert was a lovely reminder of the talent, dedication and confidence of our students. It is always a pleasure to see young people step forward, share something they have worked hard to achieve and take pride in their accomplishments. Thank you to everyone who took part, and to the staff who supported and encouraged our performers in making the evening such a special occasion.
We also have exciting international adventures ahead, with students travelling to Los Angeles and The Gambia (Year 11), and Barcelona (Years 9 and 10). These trips offer wonderful opportunities to experience different cultures, try new things and make memories that will last a lifetime. We are also looking forward to the i-Construct Fair, celebrating creativity, practical skills and innovation.
Thank you to all our staff who work so hard to create these opportunities for our students. It is these shared experiences, alongside the learning that takes place in the classroom every day, that make our school community such a special place to be.

CRY Heart Screenings (Year 11 only) – More appointments
Year 11 only - We understand that some of you were disappointed not to get a Cardiac Risk in the Young appointment. Our biennial screening relies on £7000 being raised to cover the cost of the 100 screenings, and they do always book very quickly. The school community is immensely grateful to Sue Fisher for continuing to link the fund to Mountbatten, and she is fundraising continually in the name of her son, Phil Standing.
Sue has two major fundraising activities (regularly in her calendar) over the next half-term and welcomes Mountbatten students to take part too – the next year group to benefit will be the current Year 9 students, so their focus will turn to CRY being their year group charity throughout Year 10.
CRY 12 a week – 7 to 15 November will involve Sue completing 12 different activities at the Romsey Rapids. The Sports centre is fully behind the event, so anyone who wants to do 12 activities to keep fit and raise awareness and perhaps raise some more funds through sponsorship, they can do it at the Rapids.
Romsey Christmas Charities Market is on Saturday 21 November. Sue was extremely grateful for the help from the supportive students last year so would welcome some company again this year, raising awareness and funds for CRY.
A few more appointments have now become available and can be booked by following the instructions that are posted on the Year 11 tutor group Google Classrooms.
Club Links and Further/Higher Education Evening 2026

You may have noticed that our House system has had a fresh boost this year, with more competitions, activities and opportunities for students to earn points for their Houses.
From subject challenges and quizzes to creative competitions and whole-school events, students are getting involved and contributing to their House totals. We're also celebrating our leading House each week on our social media channels, so families can follow the competition as it unfolds!
As we approach the end of the first half-term since the relaunch, Kelly House is leading the way! However, with plenty more opportunities to earn points throughout the year, there's still everything to play for.
It's been fantastic to see students embracing the House spirit, and we look forward to seeing the friendly rivalry continue throughout the year!

Year 8 iConstruct
This week, students attended the iConstruct event, organised in partnership with CEMAST College, the Hampshire Construction Training Association and a wide range of local employers. As part of the event, students were challenged to interview a company and present their findings to a panel of industry experts.
They also had the opportunity to meet representatives from colleges and training providers, as well as gain hands-on experience with a variety of construction equipment. The construction industry is keen to encourage more women to consider careers in the sector, which offers a wide range of opportunities and the potential for rewarding, well-paid employment.

Our Relationships, Sex and Health Education (RSHE) programme is delivered by form tutors who know their students well, creating a safe and supportive environment for exploring sensitive topics. This familiar relationship enables open dialogue and builds trust, allowing students to engage more confidently with challenging subject matter.
At the heart of our programme is an oracy-based methodology that prioritises discussion, debate and collaborative exploration. Rather than simply receiving information, students are encouraged to express their thoughts and questions in a supportive environment while listening respectfully to diverse viewpoints and experiences. They engage in meaningful dialogue with peers and their form tutor, developing confidence in articulating their ideas and concerns whilst practising essential communication skills that will serve them throughout life.
Our approach fosters critical thinking skills by encouraging students to question assumptions and examine different perspectives. They learn to analyse information from multiple sources and viewpoints, considering the complexity of real-world situations and relationships. Students develop skills in evaluating the consequences of different choices and behaviours while reflecting thoughtfully on their own values and beliefs.
Through structured discussions and collaborative activities, students develop respect for diversity in all its forms, including different backgrounds, beliefs and lifestyles. Students learn to disagree respectfully while maintaining positive relationships and become aware of their own biases, recognising the importance of remaining open-minded.
Our five-year programme follows a progressive and spiral curriculum structure from Year 7 to Year 11, with topics revisited at increasing levels of complexity and maturity. This approach ensures that students build upon prior learning while developing deeper understanding as they mature.
This comprehensive approach ensures our students develop not only knowledge and understanding, but also the communication skills, emotional intelligence and respect for others that will serve them well as they navigate their relationships and make important life decisions.
RSHE Autumn Dates
Year 7
This term, Year 7 will be looking at how to deal with starting secondary school, dealing with change and how to grow self-confidence. They will also explore how friendships may change, form and develop as well as how communication is a valuable tool to manage friendships. This progresses on to looking at what it means to show empathy, compassion and care. How to have a healthy lifestyle and making good choices regarding diet, energy drinks and other substances is discussed, as well as the importance of good sleep hygiene and links to positive wellbeing.
Year 8
Year 8 start the term by identifying their personal strengths and achievements. They will then explore personal safety and move on to looking at the meaning of discrimination and prejudice, including misogyny and misandry, and what protective characteristics are. October will bring discussions about Black History Month and the impact of stereotypes on individuals and communities. This leads into exploring what healthy relationships look like, how to recognise unhealthy relationships and establishing healthy boundaries and consent.
Year 9
Year 9 will be looking at what a healthy relationship is and how to recognise the features of them. They will explore the meaning of commitment within a range of different relationships and dynamics including exploring families, marriage and changes within relationships and families. Healthy lifestyles, positive mental health and wellbeing and positive self-esteem will be discussed and the impact of the digital world on these factors will finish the term. Students will also participate in an emergency aid workshop.
Year 10
Year 10 will be discussing the importance of positive mental health and wellbeing and the actions that can support this including how to reframe negative thinking and have a mindful outlook. Discussions will then focus on healthy lifestyles and changes that occur during adolescence.
Year 11
Year 11 will be exploring the importance of sleep and managing pressure and emotions, including in exams. This leads into a unit on healthy lifestyles, medical choices, substance abuse and body adjustments. Challenging stereotypes and discussing the changes in the voting system and politics will prepare students for the future as well as a practical workshop in emergency aid to give up to date first aid experience.
Should your child wish to seek support related to any of these topics or about anything else that is worrying them, please advise them to speak to their form tutor in the first instance or request some support from our Student Support Team by completing the Student Support form on the student area of the school website.
Please note all calls both to and from the school are recorded for training and monitoring purposes.
