Students have started to think about fundraising opportunities this half term, with some efforts starting to be realised this week with two very popular bake sales. We have enjoyed the smell of baked goods wafting down the corridors and look forward to sharing a grand total with you all soon. Staff have also got involved with their own bake sale and raffle prize draw. We are so proud of our school community for coming together to raise money for several important causes.
Assemblies this week have focused on a quotation from Marcus Aurelius: “The soul becomes dyed with the colour of its thoughts.” Students have explored the importance of gratitude and considered how to look out for the small things that improve our life that we might overlook. Today, we are grateful for the sunshine during afternoon break and hope that it continues over the weekend.

The government shared their Living with COVID-19 plan. Our priority is to keep school running as usual by minimising the risk of spreading COVID-19. As such, we will continue to follow the Government’s COVID-19 guidance.
LFD Tests
Students are not expected to continue to test twice weekly using LFD tests, as a result the school will no longer be supplying students with test kits as the government is no longer supplying the school with test kits.
If a student has symptoms of COVID-19
If students have symptoms of COVID-19 they should get a PCR test as soon as possible, the symptoms are:
a high temperature
a new, continuous cough
a loss or change to your sense of smell or taste
Students with COVID-19
Students with COVID-19 should not attend school while they are infectious and should self-isolate for 10 days from when the symptoms started (or the day the test was taken if you did not have symptoms). They should take an LFD test from 5 days after their symptoms started (or the day their test was taken if they did not have symptoms) followed by another one the next day. If both these tests results are negative, they should return to school, as long as they feel well enough to do so and do not have a temperature. Do not return to school until the 10 day isolation has been completed unless two negative tests have been received.
Students who live with or has had close contact with someone who has COVID-19 should continue to attend school as normal.
Design Technology Department
The Design Technology department took part in the Romsey Rotary Technology Competition on Wednesday 16 March. They fielded 2 teams of 4 students, one at foundation level (KS3) and one at intermediate level (KS4). They were up against 10 other teams in the foundation and 5 teams in the intermediate category. Romsey, Bitterne Park and Hamble also took part in the competition this year. The brief was to design and make a weight powered vehicle.
Mr Gopal is really pleased to say that all students were exemplary and a credit to the school. He is also pleased to announce that our intermediate team (KS4) won first prize in their category.

Top Tip
Fast fashion, where consumers buy cheap clothing that is rapidly produced at a mass-market scale, is on the rise and creates a huge amount of waste. In fact, the carbon footprint of new clothes bought in the UK each month is the equivalent of flying an aeroplane around the world 900 times!
We can do our bit by purchasing for quality over quantity and reducing the number of clothing purchases we make per year. Also have a look at how your clothes are made and whether the company that made that item has a sustainability pledge. For example, some companies will plant a tree for each item of clothing purchased!
