Mrs K Brooks - Director of LearningMrs S Whitfield - Director of Learning
We wanted to start with a huge well done to all those students who recently sat their Fine Art and Photography exams. The students have done themselves proud and produced some imaginative and thought provoking pieces. We look forward to sharing these with you at an exhibition later in the academic year.
Practical examinations and the MFL orals have kick started the formal Y11 GCSE season. For many households, this can be a time where additional pressures are apparent, and you may have questions about how you can best support your child. Here are some of our top tips to support you and your child through this time:
encourage your child to revise in bite size chunks and for no more than an hour at a time.
ensure that they take breaks and use you where they best can.
ask for their revision/flash cards, mind maps and test them from it.
use strategies that we have shared before such as the Leitner system. See website link below.
suggest they test themselves on Seneca, GCSEPod and other learning platforms that staff here have shared.
practise past papers – this is often the least popular but is always very useful.
We continue, as a staff, to be extremely pleased with the mature work ethic that we are witnessing with many of our students. After school revision sessions continue to run so do encourage your child to attend what is on offer for them.

The Gambia Fundraising
Our Year 10 students have been making waves around the school as they did a sponsored challenge to raise funds for our partnership school in The Gambia and for the Pebbles Project for the South Africa tour. Freya R 10DSS, Evie B 10TLS, Olivia P 10DSS and Eden B 10TLS used their creative skills to raise the money by attaching themselves together for the school day and asking for sponsorship. We commend the girls for their independence in organisation and communication with all their teachers in advance of their plans. The girls have raised just over £300 and are hoping to get up to £400. Well done, girls!

Year 11 students considering studying a STEM subject at university
EDT and Industrial Cadets Insight into University virtual experience can give students an opportunity to experience STEM studies at various universities and the career opportunities that these subjects lead to, and make their UCAS application stand out.
There is an accredited virtual summer school which can help students decide which degree course might be right for them and also enhance their UCAS application. It will provide them with an opportunity to interact with university academics, admissions tutors, current undergraduates, and STEM professionals in exclusive live sessions.
This course is like no other! With the mix of live sessions, recorded lectures and hands-on practical STEM activities and projects set by leading UK universities and global STEM companies, students will have a unique opportunity to access all this amazing content in one place, pick-and-choose subjects that interest them and do as many as they wish at their own pace over the summer.
Here is a selection of what’s on offer this summer:

Top Tip - Responsible Consumption
The next tip from our Lower School Humanities Leaders to reduce our environmental impact is all about food!
Bring in a reusable lunchbox or pack your own lunch. When we use single-use plastic and then throw it away, it can take years for it to start to break down. Generally, we are only using this item for a matter of minutes but the damage to the environment will last longer than our lifetimes. Get creative with your lunches or ask the canteen to put your food in a reusable container. It all makes a difference!
Mountbatten Activity Camp - May Half-Term
Personal Best's Mountbatten Activity Camp is back for May half-term for just £25.00 per day (5% off for siblings). We have some great activities planned such as the giant inflatable obstacle course, Nerf Battle games, arts and crafts and much more.
Personal Best is running an Emergency First Aid at Work course on Wednesday 17 May for only £80.00pp. For further information and to book, click the button below.
In this episode, a group of students meet Mr Portas, our new Headteacher, and ask him questions about the things that matter to them. From what makes Mountbatten special through the controversial topic of pineapple on pizza!
