As we enter the closing stages of GCSE examinations, we want to take a moment to acknowledge just how far our Year 11 students have come. Over the past few months, they’ve shown remarkable resilience, focus, and maturity – and we couldn’t be prouder of the way they’ve conducted themselves throughout this intense period.
We know that behind every calm exam morning is a supportive parent or carer helping to steady nerves, encourage revision, and keep spirits high. Your continued support makes a world of difference, and we can’t thank you enough.
This last stretch can feel the hardest, but it’s also where all that effort comes together. Please keep encouraging your child to rest well, eat properly, and take short breaks to recharge. Remind them that it’s normal to feel tired at this stage, and that they’re nearly there. Try to hide your jealousy over the fact they are approaching an incredibly long summer holiday!
A big thank you as well to our younger students, who have been so considerate around exam venues – your quiet support really does help. Please keep this up as we cross the finish line together.
As we move through the summer term, we’d also like to remind everyone of the importance of maintaining high standards of uniform. Looking smart helps set the tone for purposeful learning and pride in our school community.
Year 11, whatever the outcomes, your hard work and determination already speak volumes. Let’s finish strong.

Click the drop-down menus below to find out more about different careers updates/opportunities coming up for our students.
Careers Information on School Website:
The Careers Department has updated the website for both parents and students. Please come and have a look to find a wealth of information relating to ‘all things careers’.
Over the last few weeks, students learnt about careers in sports, of which one lesson covered the many opportunities the Armed Forces offer for those who are keen sports people. On Thursday morning, students were joined by a Physical Training Instructor from the Army who talked to them about his career journey, what a typical day looks like, as well as the many opportunities the Army offers to those keen staying and keeping fit. Further information can be found here:
Interested students could consider studying the Uniformed Protective Services course at Itchen College, Totton College, Richard Taunton College, Eastleigh College or Sparsholt College.
Year 9 & 10 parent webinar to navigate and support GCSEs
ParentGuidetoEducation is running a series of workshops to equip parents and carers with the knowledge and strategies they need to help their teens succeed. The sessions focus on giving families the tools to navigate this crucial stage with greater confidence and less stress.
A consortium of rail companies is inviting students to participate in a drawing competition titled ‘What might trains look like in 200 years?’ Further information can be found in this presentation. Please note that the deadline has been extended to 16 June. Students who wish to enter the competition should get in touch with Mrs Shakya in the Careers Department.
Year 10 Engineering (Arkwright Scholarships)
The school is partnering with The Smallpeice Trust with the aim to identify, inspire, and support the UK’s most promising future engineers in order to support them with their application for the Arkwright Scholarship programme. If your child is currently considering engineering as a potential career choice, please contact the Careers Department for further information. Further information about the scholarship programme can be found here: https://www.arkwright.org.uk/
RSHE lessons have continued to be taught each week in tutor groups. Do ask your child what they have been learning about and encourage them to ask further questions.
In lesson, teachers use a range of oracy-based strategies, including a Philosophy for Children approach. This is where students are encouraged to think more deeply through critical, creative, collaborative and caring thinking skills. Below are links to more information regarding RSHE.
Students have been discussing what a diverse society looks like and what the protected characteristics of the equalities act are. This has led to identifying and challenging stereotypes and what discrimination is. Students are also exploring what prejudice and bias looks like within the media and how they can research and find their own facts. Students are also identifying who their role models are and what influences they have upon them, as well as how to manage peer pressure. This leads on to exploring how to keep safe within society and within relationships.
Year 8
Students have been busy identifying what constitutes a healthy relationship and discussing how to form positive and healthy new friendships. This moves onto exploring their online activity and behaviours with the aim to reduce online risks and develop their digital resilience. Students also explore the importance of human rights and responsibilities within society, the school environment and the workplace and how to challenge discrimination. They will also discuss lifestyle choices by considering the risks and effects of alcohol, smoking and vaping.
Year 9
Students are exploring the risks associated with gangs, crime and violence. The influences of peers and the pressures that may come with that, how to support a friend who may find themselves in negative relationships and why some people may be drawn into risky behaviours are discussed as well as being supported by an assembly from an outside speaker. Lifestyle choices and drugs and vaping are specifically explored to support students’ health and wellbeing.
Year 10
Students have been reflecting on their work experience placements by sharing their experiences and feedback with one another. They have also been completing their workbooks and evidence in preparation for their World of Work certification. They will then move on to considering role models and aspirations before revisiting online safety and appropriate online material.
Year 11
Students complete their RSHE program this term ahead of their exams after they spend some time reflecting on their RSHE journey throughout their time at Mountbatten from Year 7 to Year 11. They will discuss some sensitive topics around pregnancy, miscarriage and abortion as well as positive relationships and consent. We hope that our RSHE curriculum will help our students stay healthy and happy during and long after their exams.
Should your child wish to seek support related to any of these topics or about anything else that is worrying them, please advise them to speak to their form tutor in the first instance or request some support from our Student Support Team by completing the Student Support form on the student area of the school website.
Please note all calls both to and from the school are recorded for training and monitoring purposes.
Change of time - Hatha Yoga
We’ve listened to your feedback and made a change to our yoga class start time.
Many of you told us that a slightly later start would make it easier to get to class after work or other commitments. So, from Monday 16 June, our Hatha Yoga class will begin at the new time of 6.30pm.
We hope this small shift makes a big difference in helping you carve out time for yourself each week. Whether you’re arriving straight from work or easing into your evening, you’ll still enjoy the same welcoming atmosphere, calming practice and expert guidance – just with a little more breathing room.
Thank you for helping us shape a class that works for you. We hope to see you on the mat soon!
