We take our responsibility for our students' safety extremely seriously and it's vital that we know where your child is and that if they need to be sent home, this has your consent and knowledge.
Any student who is unwell or injured should report to Mrs Barratt, our Welfare Officer. She will assess the student and decide on the best course of action. Decisions like this can be difficult and it’s quite common for Mrs Barratt to contact home to find a bit more information about any injury or illness. If a student needs to go home, parents/carers will be contacted and the student will normally sit in the medical room until they are collected. Students will then sign out so that we have an accurate record of who is in school in the event of an emergency.
Recently, we have had a few instances of students trying to contact their parents directly, with parents arriving at Reception without anybody knowing why and/or students attempting to leave site without having informed key staff or signed out. As you can imagine, this could lead to a situation where a student either places themselves in danger, or where we do not know where each of our students are.
Please could I ask you to discuss this with your child so that you both understand the system. Of course, if there is any information that we should know about your child - for example, an injury they sustained over the weekend, or an illness the previous day - we would be appreciative and grateful to receive this via an email, note in the student planner or telephone call so that relevant staff can be informed and keep a look out for your child. In general, the best people to give this information to would be Mrs Barratt, your child's tutor and if very serious, your child's Head of Year.
Thank you for your support.

MB Voices Podcast
We are excited to launch our new, student led, podcast - MB Voices. Our students have been working hard to bring content to students that will interest and help them.

Our first MB Voices podcast is a two-parter exploring student wellbeing and mindfulness. Students interview Mrs Russell and Mr Jeffery (Student Support Managers) who discuss their job in school and how we can support you. Later, students interview Mrs Enoux to find out what mindfulness is, how...

Year 11 Engineering Manufacturing Apprenticeship Opportunity
West Wellow-based family business CPV Engineering Pipework Solutions is looking for students interested in learning the whole manufacturing process and be taught how to weld pipework and create bespoke pipework and tanks for individual projects. The company are more interested in the type of person than their academic qualifications, although applicants will need to use Maths on a day-to-day basis. They want to train and develop applicants and hope that they too will stay with the company for many years to come so need to see some enthusiasm and commitment. In return, they will support the apprentice with any training necessary and are happy to allow employees to progress up the ranks into management positions if they have the necessary aptitude.
Students interested in this opportunity should contact the Careers Office for further information.

Top Tip
With the news of "carbon bombs" breaking this week (you can read more about this here), you might be wondering what else we can do to reduce our reliance on fossil fuels.
One possible answer is... where you keep your money. The bank or building society that we choose to save and invest with has a substantial influence on our environmental impact. Take a look at the graph below from the Financial Times which shows the cumulative fossil fuel financing of banks between 2016 - 2021. You can read the full article here.
Switching to an ethical bank could be a solution. Examples of ethical banks in the UK include Triodos, The Co-operative Bank and Ecology Building Society. The way that these banks work means that they will only finance companies and organisations that meet their core values; many of which align with environmental protection, fair trade, and sustainable practices.
