Friday 9th September 2022

Mr A Portas - Headteacher

I am sure that you will be saddened at the news of the death of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II, a great monarch and constant throughout our lives.

We came together as one, as a school community, to mark her passing today. As you know, the school has strong links with the Royal Family and pennants designed by our children in collaboration with the students at our partner school, Vikas Bharati, in New Delhi, were part of the pageant to celebrate the Queen’s Platinum Jubilee.

Her passing heralds a new era and a new monarch, Charles III, who opened the school’s sports hall in 1986 and stood in for Lord Brabourne to give away his daughter, Lady Alexandra Knatchbull, our current patron, at her wedding in Romsey Abbey.

We will be planning how the school can pay a fitting tribute to celebrate the life and achievements of an incredible woman, a lifetime of extraordinary duty and unreserved dedication to service.

Long live The King!

Using epraise

After just 3 days students had been have awarded just over 5000 points!

Having listened to parent and student feedback we are communicating all epraise points, along with detention notifications, via epraise this year. It is essential that all parents and carers regularly log into epraise to see how their child is doing. This can be done via a web browser or by downloading the app on your phone (we have placed buttons below for Apple and Google Play app stores). Further guidance can be found in our July letter.

How does the school communicate?

We know that staying on top of everything going on at school, work and home can be challenging and we want to make school communication as easy as possible for you. We have this weekly newsletter which is emailed and also archived on our website. All whole year group and whole cohort letters are also archived on our main school website.

We also post updates and reminders on our social media channels, and when needed, we have a pop up banner on our website.

Heads of Year and Heads of Department can be contacted via info@mountbatten.hants.sch.uk and names of these members of staff can be found on the website under 'schoollife/curriculum' or 'schoollife/pastoral'.

We are also on Facebook, Instagram and Twitter, with Instagram being used the most so that we can share updates from departments. Social media is used to share reminders or repeat updates.

If you have any questions or queries regarding your child, your first point of contact is the form Tutor.  Please email info@mountbatten.hants.sch.uk with ‘FAO: Child’s Form Tutor’s Name’ in the subject heading.  If your child is unwell and won’t be attending school, please email the Attendance Office.

Extra-Curricular Timetable - Mountbatten Sport & PE

Please press the button below to view the PE Department's Extra-Curricular Timetable.

Monday 12th September marks the start of our PE extra-curricular programme. All clubs will start this week and your child can join any club of their choosing. Many of the clubs are free and your child will simply need to turn up on the evening of the club and get changed into their Mountbatten PE kit. However there are a few clubs on our programme which are run by external coaches and are paid clubs. If your child wishes to do one of those clubs then you will need to pay for this online on the following website: www.pb.schoolactivity.co.uk

Unfortunately we have a whole staff meeting after school on Wednesday 14th September, which means we will not be able to run all of the clubs advertised on that day. For this week only, we will be moving the clubs to other evenings to accommodate students. The clubs affected, and the days they will be moving to, are as follows:

Year 7 boys football training – Moved to Tuesday 13th September

Year 7 girls football training – Moved to Tuesday 13th September

Upper School Rugby Training – Moved to Friday 16th September

Upper School Netball Training(9/10/11) – Moved to Tuesday 13th September

Upper School Girls Football Training(10/11) – Moved to Thursday 15th September

Please be aware that all other clubs will run of the set days as stated on the extra-curricular timetable.

Year 10 & Year 11 Careers Fair

We are pleased to announce that this year’s Careers Fair will be held on Thursday 29 September, from 6-8pm. All Year 10 and 11 parents, carers and students are welcome (students do not need to wear their uniform). In attendance will be the local colleges, apprenticeship providers, Armed Forces, higher education representatives, employers and alumni, enabling students to ask those all-important questions about their post-16 choices.

We would also like to offer parents a short presentation about apprenticeships. There are now more than 170 different apprenticeship pathways available and if you would like to hear more about it, please complete the short Google Form to indicate how you would like to receive this information.

Year 11 College Open Events

In order to make an informed decision about which college students would like to attend next year, we advise all students to visit at least two college open events (where feasible) so that they can get a feel for the different colleges and what they have to offer. Please note that these events need to be booked in advance via the college website. It is advisable to book tickets as soon as possible to avoid disappointment. Please click here to show a copy of the dates of all upcoming college open events.

Year 11 Course Tasters
